If you wish to pursue a career in the field of health and care or education (e.g. physiotherapy, nursing, biomedical science, social work, teaching, welfare rights officer, occupational therapy, radiography, to name just a few) this course will address many of the aspects that are integral to the health, care and education professions.

Health and social care A Level Applied GCE encompasses many subjects you have encountered already, e.g. Science, English, Science, English, History, P.E. as well as others you may be considering for A levels, e.g. Law, Sociology, Psychology, Physical Education, Diet and Nutrition, to name just a few. The units of work are extremely varied covering topics such as Equal Opportunities, Communication, Health Promotion, Anatomy and Physiology, Mental Health Issues, Child Development and Understanding Human Behaviour and Development.
COURSE CONTENT & ASSESSMENT
There are 12 units of work that need to be completed in order to gain 2 A Levels, 8 of these are coursework assignments, whilst the other 4 are assessed through a 90 minute written examination.
The course is delivered in a variety of ways from formal lectures/ seminars, group work, peer presentations and individual research.
This qualification is designed to give a broad introduction to this sector and aims to prepare candidates for further study in higher education or further training which might be whilst in employment. However, these qualifications are not designed for candidates’ direct entry into employment. Candidates who achieve these qualifications may be prepared to enter a variety of HND or degree level courses in health and social care related subjects or education.
A minimum of 5 GCSEs at grade 9-5, including Core Science and English OR Distinction at Level 2 Diploma in Health and Social Care.
